When it comes to heavy-duty pickup trucks, there are far fewer to choose from than your traditional light-duty pickup truck. Each of the big three have heavy-duty counterparts, and there are a couple more out there as well. One of the best and most capable heavy-duty trucks on the market is without a doubt the 2024 RAM 3500, which has been around since all the way back in 1994 when it was known as the Dodge Ram 3500. These days, the 2024 RAM 3500 is available for sale right now here at Jim Glover CDJRF in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Not much was changed for the 2024 model year in the RAM 3500, which is likely because a mid-generation refresh is on the horizon. We can’t wait for more exciting updates to come to light regarding the heavy-duty RAM 3500, but for now just one exciting update was made for the 2024 model year. It might not seem like much, but it’s a really nice quality of life enhancement. A new Tailgate Ajar warning lamp has been added to the entire 3500 lineup, letting you know when you leave your tailgate down much like accidentally leaving a door open.
There are three different engine options available for the 2024 RAM 3500, allowing you to get the exact blend of power and efficiency you want. You could stick with the standard option, which is a 6.7L Cummins standard-output turbo diesel engine that delivers 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. Or you could upgrade to the exclusive 6.7L Cummins high-output turbo diesel engine, which boosts output to 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft. of torque. Alternatively you could opt for the best-in-class output of the 6.4L HEMI V8 which generates up to 410 hp and 429 lb-ft. of torque.
When it comes to capabilities, the 3500 is definitely the frontrunner from the RAM lineup. Depending on which trim level, engine and configuration you opt for, you could haul up to 7,680 pounds in the bed with its max payload, plus an additional 37,090 lbs. through trailering with its max towing capacity.
The RAM 3500 isn’t quite as diverse as the 2500, with a couple fewer trim levels available, but you should still find something that suits your needs in one of the five available trims. You’ll also have some different configurations to choose from, starting with the 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain. Once you select that, you can choose your cab/bed length configuration, of which there are four available. The mega cab and 6’4” bed is only available with the 4x4 drivetrain, but the other three are available on both. They include a regular cab with an 8’ bed, a crew cab with an 8’ bed, or a crew cab with a 6’4” bed. You can also choose whether or not you want to have a dual rear wheel in the 3500, which enhances both stability and capability.
