If you’re looking for a family vehicle but don’t want to give up the rugged exterior, then one of the Jeep brand’s large SUVs might be the perfect option for you. Both the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer blend rugged capability and aesthetics with family-friendly comfort. With three rows of seating, upscale interiors and impressive cargo-hauling abilities, you’re sure to find the perfect vehicle to suit your needs… but which one is the better fit for your lifestyle? Today we’re going to take a closer look at the seating, space and cargo capacity details for both vehicles to help you come to a decision about which vehicle might be right for you.
Seating & Passenger Comfort
As we stated, both vehicles are three-row SUVs, but that doesn’t mean they both offer the same amount of space or number of seats. The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers seating for up to either six or seven passengers depending on your configuration, with six being the standard. The rear seat only has two seats available, and the second row offers captain’s chairs – however, you can upgrade to a second-row bench seat if you need the extra seat. As for overall space, the Grand Cherokee L provides 159.1 cubic feet of passenger volume for you and your family or friends to stretch out and get comfortable in.
As for the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer, you’ll have even more space for your family and friends as it offers seating for up to seven or eight, thanks to a third-row bench seat and either standard captain’s chairs in the second row or that same optional bench seat upgrade. When it comes to passenger volume, that increases by a little more than 20 feet as you’ll have 179.3 cu. ft. Your third row passengers will also have more leg room thanks to an extra 6.3 inches, plus best-in-class hip and shoulder room across all three rows.
Cargo Capacity & Hauling
Big SUVs like these two are the perfect kind of vehicle to take on road trips or similar situations, as you’ll have plenty of room for all your stuff in the cargo area – plus the capability to create even more space through towing if and when you need it. Let’s start with the Grand Cherokee L again, which offers 17.2 cu. ft. of space behind the rear seats. On those occasions when you need to fit even more in the cabin, you’ll be able to drop those rear seats to open up 46.9 cu. ft. or even the second row seats for a total of 84.6 cu. ft.
The Wagoneer, on the other hand, increases each of those specifications by quite a bit. You’ll have a whopping 27.4 cu. ft. behind the rear seats, 70.8 cu. ft. when dropping the third row and, finally, a massive 116.7 cu. ft. by dropping the second row too. But if the interior space still isn’t big enough for what you need to bring along, you’ll be pleased to learn that both models offer towing capabilities as well. The Grand Cherokee L can haul up to 7,200 pounds when properly equipped, while the Wagoneer can accommodate up to 10,000 lbs. with the right options.
Which One Is Right for You?
So, all that leaves is which one is the right choice for you. As you can see from the information compiled here, the Wagoneer is the obvious choice if you’re looking simply at the numbers. It offers more space for cargo and passengers alike in every single field, but what these numbers don’t reflect is the size and type of each vehicle.
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a midsize crossover, while the Wagoneer is a full-size, traditional SUV. If it sounds like the Grand Cherokee L has plenty of space to suit your needs, you might prefer that route as it’s typically easier to maneuver, more fuel efficient and more affordable than its larger counterpart. But if efficiency and maneuverability aren’t important to you, then the Wagoneer is the clear choice.
