The RAM brand has established itself a reputation for building hard-working trucks capable of hauling extreme loads, but the 2025 lineup is looking to expand on its legacy even further. From towing equipment throughout Tulsa to hauling a fifth-wheel trailer across the state of Oklahoma, the newest iterations of the RAM 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks are better equipped than ever to get the job done. Offering more power, smarter technologies and best-in-class capabilities, we’re absolutely stoked to offer each of these trucks here at Jim Glover CDJRF. Keep reading to learn more about the power, payload and towing updates the 2025 RAM Heavy Duty lineup has to offer.
Powertrain Upgrades
Without a doubt the biggest and most exciting update for the 2025 model year was the beefing up of the legendary Cummins diesel powertrain offered on the lineup. The 6.7L High-Output Turbo Diesel inline-six engine offers more power than ever before, with the engine now being capable of generating up to 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft. of torque. In case you’re curious, that brings with it an improved 0-60 miles per hour time for the engine as well, dropping from 8.0 seconds flat to 6.9 s.
In addition to the Cummins engine getting upgraded, the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed transmission it’s tethered to has also been reworked. The most significant advancement from the transmission is that it’s now capable of smooth second-gear starts as long as you’re not carrying a load. But the engine and transmission together have enabled nice gains in hauling capabilities, which we’ll touch on later.
If you prefer traditional gasoline performance to the diesel power offered by the Cummins engine, you can instead opt for a 6.4L HEMI V8 engine. It offers slightly less power, generating up to 405 hp and 429 lb-ft. of torque, and is tethered to a regular TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission rather than the new HD version.
Payload & Towing Capabilities
The updated 2025 RAM Heavy Duty pickup trucks translate all of that power they’re capable of generating into pretty incredible capabilities when it comes to hauling. One of the most exciting updates where these capabilities are concerned is that maximum towing capacity is now achievable at a more fuel efficient axle ratio. Previously it was only available at a ratio of 4.10, but now it can be reached at 3.42.
Speaking of maximum capacities, the 2025 model year has three pretty incredible numbers to discuss. The maximum payload of 7,590 pounds is available in gas models. The maximum conventional hitch towing capacity is 23,000 lbs. and the max 5th-wheel towing capacity, which is also the overall max capacity, is 36,610 lbs — both of which are available in diesel models. Naturally, your capacity for each of these three categories will differ based on which version of the truck you choose to get, varying based on model, trim level, bed length, drivetrain and other configuration options.
