2026 RAM 1500 Fuel Economy Updates

Published on Apr 25, 2026 by Jim Glover Creative Team

For the 2026 model year, RAM made a few tweaks to its iconic full-size, light-duty pickup truck. For example, the RAM 1500 now features three new exterior colors, while the Express and Black Express trim levels return with availability across all configurations. But without a doubt the most exciting update this year, the 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque engine has made its triumphant return to the lineup thanks to all of you enthusiastic fans out there clamoring for it. With those updates in mind, we thought we’d highlight the fuel economy ratings and other performance specs of the four available powertrains.

This standard engine option on lower trim levels, this powertrain features a TorqueFlite 850RE eight-speed automatic transmission and is capable of generating up to 305 horsepower alongside 269 pound-feet of torque. As for fuel economy, it delivers 20 miles per gallon through the city and 25 mpg on the highway when equipped with a 4x2 drivetrain, while 4x4 changes that to 19/24.

Now let’s dive into the shiny and new, as this might be the most exciting engine on the lineup this year. Coming standard with both a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission and GT Performance Exhaust, it’s capable of generating up to 395 hp and 410 lb-ft. of torque. Unfortunately, official fuel economy ratings have not yet been released for this engine, but industry experts expect a range of 17-23 mpg.

This engine is available in two different variations: Standard Output and High Output. Both versions also feature the 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission found in the HEMI. The Standard Output version of this engine is capable of doling out 420 hp and 469 lb-ft. while achieving 18/25 mpg with 4x2 or 18/24 with 4x4. As for the High Output engine, it boosts power even higher to 540 hp and 521 lb-ft. but drops fuel economy down to 15/21.

We would be remiss if we didn’t discuss the RAM 1500 REV in this blog, despite it not having fuel economy in the traditional sense. If you’re concerned with fuel efficiency in your pickup truck, this is without a doubt the option for you. When it becomes available, it will generate astounding specifications, becoming the most powerful RAM 1500 on the lineup, and obviously the most efficient as well considering its nature as a Battery Electric Vehicle.

  • All-Electric Range – 690 miles (best-in-class)
  • Maximum Horsepower – 647 hp
  • Maximum Horsepower – 610 lb-ft.
  • Maximum Towing Capacity – 14,000 pounds (best-in-class)
  • Maximum Payload – 2,625 (best-in-class)
  • 0-60 MPH Time – 4.5 s

Unfortunately it’s also still unclear exactly when this incredible truck will be launching. Keep in touch with us if you’re interested and we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know anything.
