Now that the calendar has been replaced, we’re a few months into the 2026 model year as well as a few days into the literal year, and the 2026 RAM 1500 has undergone some exciting updates. One of the biggest stories for 2026 is that the automaker has decided to bring back an engine option that they had done away with thanks entirely to customer demand. The 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque engine is available once again, and it will come standard with GT Performance Exhaust to add even more value to this aggressive pickup.

Towing & Payload Capabilities
In addition to the changes to the powertrain lineup as a whole, each of the engines has been improved slightly in terms of its towing capacity. We’ll list the towing & payload capacities below, but first we want to highlight some other exciting features of the 2026 RAM 1500 when it comes to capabilities. For example, thanks to its five-link roil rear suspension system, this truck delivers best-in-class ride quality.
It also offers some class-exclusive features like active-leveling air suspension – which enhances a number of aspects from fuel economy to off-road capabilities and much more – and the RamBox cargo management system. In addition, you’ll get the benefit of a ton of advanced towing technologies, like Blind-spot Monitoring with Trailer Tow Detection System.

Returning Trim Levels
That HEMI eTorque engine isn’t the only thing making its triumphant return for the 2026 model year, either. It’ll be joined by the RAM 1500 Express trim level and its special edition Black Express, both of which will be available in each cab and bed configuration. The Express trim slides between the Tradesman and Warlock as a new tier just above the entry level, offering its unique style and value to shoppers. The Black Express takes things even further, adding a host of black accents and other design cues to the exterior and interior of the truck, such as the Mopar tubular side steps and front bucket seats upholstered in black cloth.

Lastly, three new exterior color options will join the available list, giving you even more options — including Serrano-Green Metallic, which will become available later this year.
