Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned muscle car? Maybe not everyone wants to drive one, but it’s hard not to stare in awe as they drive past. If you landed on this blog you likely agree, but you might be begging the question… which Dodge muscle car is the right one for you? The Charger and Challenger are both iconic vehicles with decades of rich, high-performance history. While only one of them is currently in production, the other is rumored to be returning in the not-too-distant future as well.
Number of Doors
One of the biggest differences between the Charger and Challenger models is body style. The Dodge Charger has long stood out as one of the only true four-door muscle cars on the market. While both vehicles offer seating for up to five – which is also pretty unheard of in the muscle car segment – one can certainly be considered easier to access. That’s because the Dodge Challenger is, of course, a traditional two-door coupe.
So it’s important to consider the impact that might have on your daily life, since we’re attempting to figure out which model is the right fit for your style. Do you often have a full cabin? If you’re frequently driving with even three people in the vehicle, you’ll have to move one of the front seats up every time they get in and out of the vehicle. Does that fit your style? Maybe not, but if it’s pretty rare for you to get more than a single tagalong in the car with you, maybe that fits your style just fine.
Performance & Power
When it comes to performance the two Dodge muscle cars are incredibly similar to one another. We won’t compare engines or powertrain options because there have been so many different options through the years, and we’re looking at this more holistically rather than at specific model years. The big differences in performance are that the Challenger is often lighter and therefore has the edge in acceleration, plus the Challenger is usually available with a manual transmission whereas the Charger hasn’t had one to offer since the ‘80s.
Interior Comfort & Technology
Naturally, the difference in doors translates into the cabin. The two-door coupe is much smaller than its four-door sedan sibling, which means your backseat passengers won’t just have a harder time climbing in, they’ll also have less space in which to get comfortable. The Challenger offers a spacious front seat, but those rear seats are really only suited for occasional passengers.
Both models will offer intuitive technology like the Uconnect infotainment system and driver-focused controls – depending on which model you get, of course – and similar features across the board. So the only thing you really need to consider to determine which model fits your style best, is how you’re going to utilize that back seat. It’s the same debate as in the first section.
