RAM Towing Guide 2025: What You Need to Know Before Hauling in Oklahoma

Published on May 27, 2025 by Jim Glover Creative Team

One of the main reasons for anyone to purchase a pickup truck is its unmatched capability for towing. RAM pickup trucks in particular are known for their towing, so if you’re considering a new pickup truck during the 2025 model year you might be curious as to what kind of capabilities they actually have. Today we’re going to dive into the specs and features of the RAM truck lineup, specifically as it relates to towing and hauling, to establish a full towing guide for you this year. We’ll also be sure to highlight what you need to know about the rules and regulations in the area before hauling here in Oklahoma.

RAM Truck Lineup Max Towing Capacity & Payload

Technically, max payload doesn’t have anything to do with towing, as that figure represents the maximum weight your truck can accommodate in both the cabin and truck bed themselves. But it’s still an important figure that goes a long way when it comes to hauling with your pickup truck, so we’ve included it in addition to each model’s maximum towing capacity in the table below — plus a few examples of what those capacities might be able to haul.

Truck Model Max Towing Capacity Max Payload Trailering Examples
RAM 1500 11,550 lbs. 2,370 lbs. Boats, Small Campers, Utility Trailers
RAM 2500 20,000 lbs. 4,420 lbs. Large Campers, Horse Trailers, Equipment Haulers
RAM 3500 36,610 lbs. 7,590 lbs. 5th-wheel RVs, Large Construction Trailers, Heavy-Duty Hauling

Trailer Technologies & Features

Now that we’ve shown you what each truck is capable of in the literal sense, let’s take a closer look at some of the incredible technologies and features that have started to be integrated into RAM trucks to enhance the trailering experience, both in terms of safety and convenience — and maybe even capability.

  • Air Suspension System
    • While it might not seem like a feature that enhanced towing, the available Auto-Level Rear Air Suspension system feature available in the RAM 1500 features a Bed Lowering Mode which makes it much easier to attach both conventional and fifth-wheel trailers.
  • Trailer Tow Pages
    • These “pages” represent different screens that you can showcase on the driver information center on your dashboard, including features like Trailer Light Check, Trailer Brake Status and Tow Specific Navigation.
  • 360° Surround View Camera
    • Again, not a feature specifically designed with trailering in mind, but one that certainly makes it easier to see what you’re doing with a trailer attached — especially if upgraded with the available 360° Trailer Surround View Camera.
  • Telescopic Trailer Tow Mirrors
    • These telescopic mirrors were designed to extend when you have a trailer attached to help mitigate blind spots while driving.
  • Reverse Guidance with Split-Screen View
    • This available feature will help you back up even without the assistance of somebody outside to guide you, by giving you a better look at your surroundings in reverse.
  • Rear Cross Path with Trailer Detection
    • This feature is an upgrade to the Blind Spot Monitoring system, which will help scan blind spot zones even around your trailer by automatically sensing and taking into account the added length of the trailer you have attached.
  • Trailer Reverse Steering Control
    • This incredible switch makes backing up with a trailer far more precise as it allows you to control which direction your trailer is moving.
  • Digital Rearview with Tow Mode
    • The digital rearview monitor integrated into your rearview mirror has been upgraded with a Tow Mode.
  • Integrated Towing Hardware
    • Both the RAM 2500 and 3500 feature a factory-installed rear-axle structural crossmember with integrated mounting hardware designed with the Fifth-Wheel/Gooseneck Prep Package in mind.
  • Trailer Sway Control
    • This system will help keep your trailer stabilized and reduce any side-to-side movement that might be caused by the wind or a passing vehicle.

Oklahoma Towing Laws

Alright, last but not least, we promised a little glimpse into the rules and regulations associated with towing according to the law here in Oklahoma. So, we’ll leave you with just a few things that you should always keep in mind.

  • Any trailer you utilize must have functional brakes if its weight exceeds 3,000 pounds.
  • Any trailer you utilize must have a properly rated hitch and be secured with safety chains.
  • Any trailer you utilize must have functional brake lights, turn signals and reflectors.

We hope all of this information has been helpful, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch with us right here at Jim Glover CDJRF.
