What’s new in the 2025 RAM Heavy Duty 2500 & 3500 pickup trucks?

Published on Apr 30, 2025 by Jim Glover Creative Team

This year has been a huge one for the RAM brand. Not only did the RAM 1500 receive a mid-generation refresh, but it was also joined by several new variants including the off-road RHO, the plug-in Ramcharger and the all-electric REV. The automaker wasn’t about to neglect the rest of their lineup, though, as the heavy-duty 2025 RAM 2500 & 3500 have also received some big changes for 2025. A brand-new engine option is one of the chief upgrades this year, but we’re going to highlight that and many other enhancements in today’s blog. Be sure to check out the video at the bottom, in which our very own Jared Glover talks about and showcases many of these improvements.

Power & Performance Upgrades

Without a doubt, as we mentioned, the biggest highlight of what’s new in the 2025 RAM Heavy Duty pickup trucks is its newly available engine upgrade. While both trucks will come standard with a 6.4L HEMI V8 engine, you can now opt to upgrade to a 6.7L Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel I6. With this new engine, you’ll be capable of generating up to 430 horsepower alongside an astounding 1,075 pound-feet of torque.

When coupled with the equally new TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission, both the RAM 2500 and 3500 offer increased towing capabilities, improved fuel efficiency and a smoother driving experience overall. Here are a few specific examples of improvements in the 2025 RAM Heavy Duty models:

  • More efficient 3.42 rear axle ratio for maximum towing with Cummins
  • Quicker acceleration for RAM 2500 with Cummins; 0-60 mph in 6.9 s
  • Maximum payload of 7,590 lbs. with HEMI
  • Maximum towing capacity of 36,610 lbs. with Cummins; figure is for gooseneck towing

Interior Cabin Improvements

Over the past decade plus, the cabin of every type of vehicle has become more of a focal point for engineers. Car shoppers want the cabin to be packed full of connectivity and convenient options to make their experience on the road more enjoyable. The biggest upgrade for the interior of the RAM HD trucks is the upgraded Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The latest version of the system includes either an updated 12” or a brand-new 14.5” display, plus more enhancements. The following list includes some of these additional Uconnect upgrades, plus some other great new features found in the cabin of both trucks this year.

  • Atlantis electrical architecture provides five times faster operating speeds
  • A 10.25” passenger screen, which is the first of its kind in the segment
  • On-board power inverter offering up to 2.4 kilowatts from a pair of covered outlets in the truck bed
  • Dual wireless phone charging, which is the only of its kind in the segment

Exterior Design Enhancements

There weren’t a ton of changes to the exterior this year, but there were a few exciting enhancements that we wanted to highlight, most notably an updated series of grilles that vary based on which trim level you choose. In addition, LED headlights now come standard but you could instead upgrade to twin bi-functional projectors. New incandescent taillamps are also standard, or you can upgrade to more premium LEDs that feature integrated Blind-spot Monitoring. Finally, new wheel designs dependent on the model have also been introduced.

Advanced Technology Additions

Lastly, we want to make sure to highlight a few new technologies that have been introduced, most of which revolve around safety and trailering. Check them out in the following list, which also includes some technologies that aren’t new but have been made standard this year.

  • Enhanced Lane Keep Assist
  • Fully digital rearview mirror; featuring tow mode
  • Power telescoping trailer tow mirrors
  • Trailer reverse steering control
  • Trailer-Tow Pages
  • Adaptive cruise control; standard
  • Forward Collision Warning-Plus; standard
  • ParkSense; Big Horn
  • Drowsy Driver Detection; available
  • Traffic Sign Recognition; available
  • Active Lane Management; available

Hopefully, all of this great information has given you a better idea of what to expect from the 2025 RAM 2500 and 2025 RAM 3500. If you’re interested in either heavy duty pickup truck, don’t be afraid to reach out with any questions or to schedule a test drive. Enjoy the video if you’d like to learn more.
