What’s New in the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk?

Published on Oct 9, 2026 by Jim Glover Creative Team

Now that we’re nearing the end of the 2026 calendar year, the 2027 model year is in full swing, and we’re getting all sorts of details about new and updated models across the industry. One such vehicle is the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, which will make its triumphant return with a Trail Rated badge alongside a host of exclusive upgrades and features. Today we’re going to dive into what’s new in the upcoming Trailhawk model, highlighting the specs and features we know will get you excited.

“Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is the real deal and earned its Trail Rated badge through a gauntlet of testing scenarios. This SUV blends authentic 4x4 off-road capability that the Trailhawk badge represents and with hybrid efficiency that is so important to customers in this segment.”

Authentic 4x4 Capability & Low-Range Control

One of the most exciting upgrades for the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk actually lies beneath the chassis, built into the standard Jeep Active Drive II 4x4 System. The updated system now features a class-exclusive two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU) as well as an Electronic Locking Rear Axle.

Unlike typical compact crossovers, the Trailhawk equips a true two-speed transfer case with low range, dropping the crawl ratio to an impressive 37.5:1. This allows drivers to tackle steep inclines, loose gravel, and technical rock crawls with maximum control. To adapt to changing conditions, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system comes standard with five unique settings: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.

Trail-Ready Suspension, Specs, & Aesthetics

As for the chassis itself, Jeep engineered the Cherokee Trailhawk for real off-road demands. It includes unique spring and damper tuning, delivering a factory one-inch suspension lift, which translates to nine inches of ground clearance alongside 24” water-fording capability. The suspension setup also increases the SUV’s Ramp Travel Index by 45 points compared to standard Cherokee models, allowing superior wheel articulation over uneven terrain.

In addition, the Cherokee Trailhawk boasts several best-in-class specifications, including:

  • Approach Angle – 28.8 degrees
  • Departure Angle – 31.8 degrees
  • Ramp Breakover Angle – 21.9 degrees

But there are also plenty of features and design cues that enhance both the rugged capabilities and aesthetic of the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

  • Steel skid plates; front axle, electrical wiring, fuel tank, hybrid battery pack
  • 17” wheels wrapped in Nexen Rodian ATX all-terrain tires; 245/65R17
  • Red front, rear recovery hooks
  • Anti-glare hood graphic
  • Fog lamps
  • Gloss Black exterior accents

Efficient Turbo Hybrid Power

Another big change for the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk is that it is of course now powered by a hybrid system. When Cherokee returned to the lineup for 2026, it launched as a hybrid-only model, which means the new Trailhawk trim level will also be powered by a 1.6L turbocharged hybrid powertrain. The system is capable of generating 210 horsepower while achieving an estimated 31 miles per gallon combined, granting a nice blend between power and efficiency.

Custom Option Packages

As if Trailhawk wasn’t already personalized enough to the off-road lifestyle, shoppers will have three additional packages they can opt to add-on to their 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

  • Trailering Package – Adds equipment to enable a maximum 3,500-lb towing capacity.
  • Sun & Sound Package – Adds a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a premium Alpine audio system.
  • Advanced Pro Tech Group – Includes ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front/rear camera washers, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.
