An icon of the off-road game has returned this year after a couple of years on the bench, so we thought it’d be a great time to see how it measures up to our own legendary off-road SUV. We’re talking about pitting the incredible 2024 Jeep Wrangler against the return of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser has always been one of the Wrangler’s fiercest competitors in its segment, so we’re excited to see the competition reignited with its return for the 2024 model year. Let’s take a look at how they compare to one another.
“The Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate adventure vehicle and the icon of the brand. Since Wrangler’s introduction, the Jeep brand has sold more than 5 million around the world, setting new levels of 4x4 capability with each new generation. The new 2024 Wrangler raises the bar once again, combining more capability, technology, comfort and safety features with the freedom to choose from four different powertrains, including our electrified 4xe, the best-selling PHEV in America.”
– Bill Peffer, Senior Vice President & Head, Jeep Brand North America
The best way to start a comparison like this is with a table that actually highlights some of the most pertinent specs that the two vehicles have to offer. That’s tough to do with a vehicle like the Wrangler considering, as Bill Peffer just mentioned in the quote above, there are four different powertrains from which to choose. For this comparison table, we’ll pit the base trim levels of each vehicle against one another. To be more precise, we’ll be comparing the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-Door to the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958.
2024 Jeep Wrangler | vs | 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser |
285 hp | Horsepower | 326 hp |
265 lb-ft. | Torque | 465 lb-ft. |
2,000 lbs. | Max Towing Capacity | 6,000 lbs. |
19 mpg | Combined Fuel Efficiency | 23 mpg |
3,948 lbs. | Curb Weight | 5,037 lbs. |
31.7 cu. ft. | Cargo Volume | 37.5 cu. ft. |
4 | Seats | 5 |
9.7 in. | Ground Clearance | 8 in. |
41.4° | Approach Angle | 30° |
36° | Departure Angle | 22° |
As you can see from the table, each vehicle has its own advantages. When it comes to power output and traditional performance, the Land Cruiser unfortunately gets a nod. Its powertrain is much beefier, but it also needs to be because it’s more than 1,000 pounds heavier than the Wrangler. It does offer three times as much towing capacity as well, but towing isn’t typically the main attraction for Wrangler owners.
That’s the off-road performance, rather, and in this comparison it’s clear the Wrangler has the edge. Not only does it weigh a significant amount less than the Land Cruiser, but it has nearly two extra inches of ground clearance and a huge advantage in both approach and departure angles. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser may be one of the biggest competitors for the Jeep Wrangler, but it still can’t hold a candle to it when it comes to off-road performance.
Naturally, each vehicle has a ton of features and technologies to offer, but we’d be here all day if we tried to highlight all of them. If you’d like to learn more about the 2024 Jeep Wrangler you can feel free to reach out to us right here at the Jim Glover CDJRF sales desk as we’d be happy to help however we can. Hopefully we’ve helped highlight the differences between these two vehicles and shown that if you’re looking for the ultimate off-road vehicle, Wrangler remains the answer.
