2025 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV Range & Charge Times

Published on Aug 14, 2025 by Jim Glover Creative Team

We’re now firmly in the third year of the incredible Dodge Hornet R/T, the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Designed by the son of Tom Gale, who designed the iconic Dodge Viper, the brand’s DNA is present from bumper to bumper despite this being a first for the brand. But we know how divisive electrification can be, so today we’re here to give you the details on its range and charge times while highlighting its impressive performance.

Electric Range: How Far Can It Travel?

One of, if not the most important question to ask when researching an electric vehicle of any kind is how far it can travel. But before we actually get into that, we know the most important question for the majority of Dodge enthusiasts is how much power does it have? So, that’s where we’ll start. The 2025 Hornet R/T is powered by a 1.3L turbocharged inline-4 engine tethered to a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery and a pair of electric motors. It’s capable of generating up to 288 horsepower alongside 383 pound-feet of torque, which actually makes it the most powerful SUV in its segment.

Now we can dive into its range, which is a little different when discussing a PHEV than a true battery-electric vehicle. A PHEV typically has a relatively small all-electric driving range, but it’s supplemented by the range of its traditional engine. You can drive the Hornet R/T for a total of 360 miles with a full charge and a full tank of gas, which includes roughly 33 miles of electric driving.

A plug-in hybrid like this is often the perfect solution for drivers interested in the appeal of an electric vehicle that still want the freedom of gasoline on longer trips. 360 miles is plenty for long-distance travel, but 33 miles of pure electric driving is also generally enough for regular daily commuting. Furthermore, when driving in hybrid mode you’ll get 77 MPGe, which is pretty incredible efficiency for a high-performance sports car like the Dodge Hornet.

Charging Times: How Fast Does It Charge?

More good news for those drivers who might be wary of electric vehicles because of their charging time, since you’ve got a much smaller range you also don’t need to charge it as long. If you’re able to secure Level 2 Charging, which requires a 240V outlet, then the 7.4-kW onboard charging module can deliver a full charge in approximately 2.5 hours — the battery has a capacity of 15.5 kWh. You can pay to have Level 2 charging installed at home, or use a public Level 2 charger for this.

In other words, depending on the distance to your place of employment, you should be able to make your daily commute no problem and have plenty of time to charge your vehicle at home before work the next morning. If your jobsite has Level 2 charging, you could even add some errands before and after work if you have miles to spare. All without dipping into your fuel!
